Boring Technical Stuff

Radar jammers came on the seen fifteen years ago. I avoided them like the plaque knowing that rather then being a protection device they were a red flag waved in the cops face saying "I am jamming your radar".

This infuriates a cop and even without a accurate speed reading on your car he will come after you and give you a fat juicy ticket claiming some very high speed. Yes he is lying, and believe me, cops lie. I have had cops ticket people with radar where there isn't even a radar gun in the entire police department. Early radar police

These jammers either returned a "beat frequency" consistent with a certain speed or jammed his signal completely. The cop is not stupid and he certainly can tell if a car zipping past him going very fast. He just doesn't know the exact speed. So if you zip by him at 80 mph in a 55 zone and his gun reads 35 mph, you bet he knows that something is wrong. He will come after you and give you a ticket for doing 100 in a 30. Probably cite you for straddling the white line and improper passing as well.

The same can be said if you zip by him at 80 and he does not get a reading on your speed even as you pass him. He knows what you have probably jammed him and he will come after you as well.

This was and still is the problem with these jammers. Another problem is that as of Mid Summer 2002 the FCC has ruled these devices as being illegal. (The RMR devices, those Radar Rob sells are 100% FCC legal and are reflective receivers, not actual jammers that transmit a false frequency.)

What is normal is that about every 20th car he gets a -0- or ERROR or ---- reading on his gun. This is caused by normal interference. He expects to get a reading on your speed as you pass him if the interference was normal and the speed reading should match his observation of your speed. That is he should be reading 65 MPH and your car should appear to be traveling at 65 MPH as you pass him. If he is still reading -0- or ERROR or -----  as you pass him he will probably come after you.

That error reading can be caused by a thousand things including a chirp added into his radar reflection by a Rocky Mountain Radar device. He can't tell the cause of the error, however it is normal, and he won't even concern himself with it provided he does get a good reading as you pass by.

The same can be said about laser. Except that with laser the error reading is more common because the shape of the car has a lot to do with errors. Some car shapes are such that a laser reading is almost impossible.

The Rocky Mountain Scrambler in association with a radar / laser detector gives you the time you need to slow down to the approved speed by the time you pass the cop where he gets a good reading on your speed. Remember he will eventually get a good reading on your car and that will occur anywhere from 50 to 200 feet.

The error reading is because his device has a sampling computer. That is it takes anywhere from 8 to 12 consecutive returns agreeing with each other before his device will display a speed. The chirp produced by the RMR scramblers simply add errors to the consecutive readings. On those road side displays that display your speed there is no sampling computer and it will display your real speed. Fortunately those roadside displays are not used for issuing tickets. Without a sampling computer any evidence obtained from them is inadmissible in court. They are there to let you know that someone is watching and to slow traffic a bit.

The bottom line is that a RMR Jammer / scrambler is 100% FCC legal. It does not send out a fictitious speed it simply confuses the sampling computer. "Punch Through" will occur at around 50 to 200 feet where the officer will have an accurate reading of your speed. If you are still at full throttle as you pass him and failed to slow down, he will come after you.

These devices give you time to slow down. During that slow down period the miserable excuse for a swine can't read your speed.  View the products
